Have you ever come across a product on the market, and that you simply cannot live without it? Would you like to be able to say no, yet it seems too hard to do it? Well, believe it or not, even though it is not at all pleasant, it would feel more unpleasant as time goes by and you realize you have entered debt – or, instead, talk with people you know and see that they managed to save up money and make their lives easier, whereas you are still paying rent. Temptation is one of the hardest feelings to stop or change, but it does not mean it is impossible to break – it is just up to you what path to take, but trust me, you will start to love the financial literacy once you get to know it. These being said, in case you are looking forward to knowing more concerning the subject, make sure to stick with us and keep an eye onto the following lines in order to meet 5 tips on saying no when you are tempted to buy!
- Carry Only Cash Money
Believe it or not, credit cards are one of the most tempting objects to use when doing shopping. Since you cannot necessarily see the money fly from one part to the other, owning a credit card might lead you to harsh debt. Recent studies have shown that we spend more money when we do not use cash in comparison to when we do use cash. The reason is that when you have cash, you see the money and you perceive the pain of paying – since the pleasure of buying something is somehow rationalized by the money that we pay. Instead, when you use credit card, you get only the satisfaction – but not whatsoever the rational idea of paying the money.
- Do Not Pay for Sale If You Would Not Buy The Products at Full Price
This tip is one of the best, since you will not in a lifetime be happy and excited of a product if you buy it just for free. Basically, if you buy it, you have not saved a single dollar! In reality, you have just spend quite a lot of money onto something that will stay on your closet the whole time, not being worn for the entire price that you have bought it for. So, if you would not pay the whole price for it, just leave it on the shelf – and thank us later.
- Stick to Your List
Even though this is not that pretty (and there are always some urgent and unforeseen situations), it is imperative that you make a list in advance going shopping and stick to it, just the way you have planned from home. As time goes by, you will realise that you have been spending some nonsense money on some extra stuff, while going shopping and picking stuff from the shelves. Instead, you can from now on put them aside, and never be afraid of going over the budget – and pay more than you previously should!
- You are Not in a Competition
Especially when there are sales on the market, we are eager to get everything we possibly can – just to be the first ones, and not letting the others the opportunity to win this or that. The paradox is that each of those winnings has a price, which means that even though you have won them, you have to pay in order to get them. Basically, when you go shopping you are not in a competition – with anyone. This is the main reason why you should not be acting like one and, instead, go and get just the things that you need – and nothing more!
- Picturize How You Would Have to Throw Them Pretty Soon
Did you know that once you have to move from one place to the other, you would have to throw everything that you own away – or, let’s say (in the good possibility), sell them for as much as a dollar each? Well, if you make some calculus, you will realize that you will never ever get those money back. Basically, the more you buy, the more useless things you own that one day will have to disappear – because of the lack of space, moving out or so many other reasons. It is up to you what the next things you buy would look like, still remember one important piece of advice – it is extremely, but extremely important to imagine how would it be and look like if you had to throw them away. I don’t know about you, but I would not like to see my money out in the garbage. What about you? We know you will take the right choice next time you go shopping!
