If you are considering starting a family business then it can be a good idea to think of an idea that the whole family can get involved with. One of the nicest things about opening a coffee shop is that there are jobs within the company for everyone. You even have space for younger children to come and do homework under your supervision if this is needed. So what do you need to do to get started?

Get Your Business Head On
It is all well and good thinking it would be a good idea to open a coffee shop, but you have to remember that you will need to put in some hard work. As lovely as opening a coffee shop can be, you need to make sure it is a sensible decision before you go ahead. Get together as a family and decide who is going to be involved. You should have a clear idea of which direction you are going to take the business in and who has which role within the company.

Of course, before you start any business you need to make sure there is a gap in the market. Spend a little time doing research into other local coffee shops and see what they offer. This will give you an idea of what is missing and what you can do to cater to this. It will also give you an idea as to whether there is actually a need for a coffee shop near you. There is very little point opening a coffee shop if the market is already saturated with hot drink options.

If you decide that you do want to go ahead with this, then you’ll need to make sure you have the skills to go this well. It should go without saying that customer service skills are essential. You’ll also need to some training in serving and making coffees. Have a look for a local barista course and get at least a few of the family signed up. This will teach you valuable skills that you can pass onto the rest of the people who will be serving drinks in your cafe.

Financial Backing
It is all well and good deciding you want to go ahead but you need to make sure you have the funding. If you do not have the money to invest yourself then you might need to look at different options. If you do a little research into funding you may find that there are business start-up grants that you are entitled to sign up to. Failing this you might need to seek out a loan or some other kind of business. This can often be the hardest stage of starting a business but don’t give.

As long as you have a solid plan for a viable business idea then finding funding should be possible. Just make sure you explore every avenue and  you’ll be able to make your business idea a reality.
