I’m sure we’ve all thought about becoming our own boss at one time or another. But have you really put thought into what you would do if you worked from home? Some people think about it, but never really think they’ll go through with it. The following 15 ideas should spark your interest. Which will be your business venture?
Start a Salon in Your Garage
If you have the qualifications, why not start your own salon in your garage? You could even utilize another spare room by transforming it into your salon. You could do nails, cut hair, massage – anything you’re qualified to do. You can make it look just as good as a real salon, just make sure you have appropriate insurance to protect yourself and your customers.
Catering
Love cooking? You could be a caterer! You could cater for small weddings, meetings, and other business events. Cooking food in your home and then taking it to the event to be laid out. You could even branch out and do larger events when you’ve got a good client base. All you’ll need is a big kitchen to match!
Jewellery Making
If you have an eye for detail and design, why not start your own jewellery business? There are all kinds of methods you can use to create your own unique jewellery. You could even do custom orders! It’s never been easier to advertise with sites like Instagram, and sell with sites like Etsy. You could even build a new business website for people to order through. The choice is yours.
Wedding Stationery
Weddings are a huge event in people’s lives, but they can cost so much money. You could make a living from home by making wedding stationery and selling it at a reasonable price. You can create bespoke orders and even cater to a range of events. Focus on one niche first, and then branch out when you get more successful.
Blogging
Although it may take a while, blogging can be a lucrative business idea as well. You’ll need to be consistent, but after a few months you might just notice a rise in your profits. You might even get gifted free items to blog about! This is one of the most rewarding work from home careers.
Start an eBay Business
Starting an eBay business is as easy as 1,2,3. Simply choose something you’re interested in and begin to sell it on eBay. You could sell your old stuff, specially sourced vintage items, or even items you’ve bought wholesale ready to sell on. You must be passionate about the items though, or this will never work.
Write e-books
If you have a passion for writing, you could write e-books and publish them on Amazon. It’s not difficult at all, and you’ll make money whenever one of your books sells. You could sell story books, but the best way to go about it is to answer a common problem. For example, you could write a helpful book on how to get rid of acne. Books like this always sell fast.
Become a Career or Life Coach
If you have a particular skill or a great knowledge of a certain industry, you could offer your services as a career or life coach. People always need great advice, and you could be the one to give it to them.
Build Websites
People always want great websites built for business or personal reasons. If you have a great knowledge of web design and SEO, this could be your calling. You’ll need to build up a portfolio of quality work, but once you’ve done that, the rest should be easy peasy.
Become an Editor
Editors have a passion for great spelling and grammar, and can spot it a mile off in posts. Imagine getting paid to sit there and correct spelling? This would be a dream come true for many self proclaimed ‘grammar police’ recruits out there.
Event Planner
If you have a flair for arranging fabulous parties and celebrations, you could become and event planner for other people. You could specialise in weddings, birthday parties, anything you want!
Cleaning
OCD cleaners never think of turning their passion into a lucrative business. Ok, to clean other people’s houses you won’t be working from home, but it’s close enough right? You could even take ironing home to do later on. If this is something you’re really good at, people will pay you to do it for them.
Music Tutor
Many people want to learn how to play a musical instrument, but they just don’t have the patience to teach themselves. If you have a passion for a particular instrument, you could make a killing teaching it to others. You’ll need to be friendly and good at communicating, but the rest is up to you.
Personal Trainer
Got a love for health and fitness? Become a personal trainer! This is usually a job for training clients outside the home, but you can still set your own hours as you wish. If you can prove that you get results, you should build up a client base in no time. You could even run fitness classes to train multiple clients at once.
Pet Sitter
Pets aren’t supposed to be left on their own for too long, and it’s especially horrible for the more social animals like dogs and cats. Owners need to go out sometimes though, whether it’s to work, on holiday, or somewhere important. This is where you could come in. If you pride yourself on your bond with animals and think you’d be a great pet sitter, start advertising your services. You could have them stay with you, or go to their house to look after them. It’s up to you to decide how you’ll do it!
