Every year, more and more Americans are either choosing to work from home, or are being forced to generate home-based income because of a sluggish job market or the need to pay off mounting debts. Here are five ways to make money from home:
Freelance Writing
If you have a computer and Internet access, you can write articles, blogs and stories for a variety of markets, including magazines, websites, e-books, etc.
Theneed for new text is huge and ever-expanding, so there’s generally plenty of work to go around.Your best bet is to try and secure several clients whose requirements match your specific area(s) of knowledge.
Grow and Sell Your Own Produce
If you have a reasonably large space in your yard and don’t mind getting dirty, you can grow and sell your own herbs, fruit and vegetables. Local restaurants are usually looking for fresh, organic produce, as are small local grocery stores. You can rent space at a local farmers market, or even set up your own roadside stand. Plus, you’ll save money on your own grocery bills.
Arts and Crafts
If you have a knack for making decorative or gift items like jewelry, knitwear, floral wreaths, etc., or are an imaginative fine artist — painter, sculptor, metalworker —you can sell your creations at art shows, crafts fairs, flea markets and specialty outlet stores.
Alternatively, you can sell your crafts over the Internet. The Etsy website allows individuals to sell theirhandmade and vintage items, including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, quilts, knick-knacks and toys.
Sell Your Voice
Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful voice? If so, you can put it to work by working for a call center. Call centers cater to businesses that don’t have someone to answer their phones 24 hours a day. Calls they receive are routed to individuals’ homes andare answered by well-spoken operators, like you, who aretrained to respond to customers’ questions and concerns.
Internet Marketing
There are many ways to make money on the Internet. One way is to create a website that caters to a niche market, allowing you to make money through affiliate marketing. Let’s say you build a website that appeals to cat owners and you list a variety of books, foods and other productsthey might want to buy. Every time a product sells via your site, you earn a commission. Or, alternatively, you can place vendors’ ads on your site and get paid every time someone clicks on them.
It may be time to get creative and start making money from your own home. You’ll boost your bottom line while paying down your debt.
