- Hard Skills
If you aim to win the people in front of you, your resume has to include all of your skills, but not before carefully choosing them. The best way to present your resume is in a planned and strategic manner, so that the interviewer can easily go through it once you are in front of him. Following this method, it is important to add the Hard Skills section for various reasons, as follow:
- They provide the interviewer with a sneak peek of exactly what you know, such as: word processing, programming, fluency in foreign languages, mathematics etc.;
- Any interviewer will keep an eye on your resume for a longer period if they are presented through the document, which results in a bigger chance for you to be selected.
- Soft Skills
Aside the hard ones, soft skills imply a personal appreciation concerning social adaptability – especially in an organization. Thus, an interviewer can get a sneak peek of your social skills, once they are presented – as follow:
- Whether or not you are a problem solver;
- If you are able to adapt to new circumstances and can collaborate with others;
- In case creativity is a part that you are looking for or if you have a good self-confidence etc.

As in any other life experience, your resume has to fit perfectly onto the job position – it means it has to be balanced, neither under nor over the requirements, for various reasons:
- If the required skills are not presented in your resume, you will be considered under-specialized;

Even though this might seem appealing, in reality this is a double-edged sword, since interviewers are there to look for people whose specialization is exactly in their limits. Thus, if you are high specialized, they will know that after you spend there some months, you might be looking forward for another job place, since what they offer to you may look under your expectations.
- Where to Place the Skills on Your Resume
There are various strategy types to take up, according to the industry you are interviewing. To make it short and easier to understand, here are some guidelines:
- Technical competencies and skills are extremely important, especially if you want to enter such a position in the company. Thus, they will be the best presented at the beginning of your resume, so that the interviewer will have under his nose, at all times, what you know to do and where would you fit best;
- After the experience list. In case you appreciate that the interviewer is keener on what you did before, it is better to add the list with your skills at the end of your resume, just after the experience list. By this way, you will achieve what you have been looking for – which is the main objective (getting the dream job).
- Show Both Types of Skills in Reality
A mix&match is always a great idea when being presented at an interview. Both the hard and the soft skills are ought to be presented on your resume, due to the fact that no one wants a robot (thus the soft skills are extremely important, since the emotional intelligence gains ground) but none wishes for an all-time talker either! Thus, a combination within the two in real life is the way to get it.
